Notch design |
OPPO A3s has a the newer 19:9 screen design versus the J4+. The notch is noticeably bigger than Y6 Pro 2019. But, it has the slightly higher 88.8 percent of screen-to-body ratio versus the 87 percent of Y6 Pro 2019. How and why? A3s has the slightly slimmer chin bezel.
The smallest notch design award goes to Y6 Pro 2019
But overall, Y6 Pro 2019 still has the advantage in design due to its curves and smaller notch. The glass-like back of the A3s is quite attractive as well. J4+ has a decent design, but most will surely pick the Huawei or OPPO here.
The size of Y6 Pro 2019 and A3s are identical at 156.28 x 73.5 x 8 mm and 156 x 75.3 x 7.8 mm, respectively. The J4+ has the smallest screen among the three, but due to its thicker bezels, it has the biggest body at 161.4 x 76.9 x 7.9 mm.
Display Quality

Y6 Pro 2019 screen |
All three phones arrived with an HD+ IPS screen. The Y6 Pro has a 6.09-inch 1520 x 720 screen, J4+ goes with a 6-inch 1480 x 720 display, and A3s has a 6.2-inh 1440 x 720 screen.

The difference in sharpness between the 3 is hardly noticeable. Y6 Pro is the sharpest at 276 ppi followed by J4+ at 274 ppi and A3s at 260 ppi.

A3s screen |
Color reproduction of the J4+ and A3s are warmer than the Y6 Pro. Y6 Pro looks a bit more accurate to my eyes.
The display on the phones have blue light filter support to reduce the emission of harmful for blue light.
The Y6 Pro has the edge in sunlight legibility as it has the brightest screen among the three.
It also has 10 points of touch for easier typing and swiping. In comparison, A3s only has 5 points of touch.
Audio Quality
All three phones arrived with a single speaker below. Both the Y6 Pro 2019 and A3s comes with a down firing speaker. The J4+ has right side firing speaker. All of them are surprisingly loud with crisp details. The Y6 Pro has the fullest and loudest sound. It also has the wider soundstage. In fact, just 80 percent loudness of Y6 Pro 2019 is louder than the max loudness of J4+ and A3s. Thanks to its SuperSound tech also known as the Histen 5.0.
For wired headphones, Y6 Pro 2019 is superb again. It has strong driving power and can make a lot of wired earphones and few portable headphones shine. The headphone audio out of the J4+ and A3s are also nice and clean, but not as full sounding as the Y6 Pro 2019.
All three phones has Bluetooth connectivity. Both Y6 Pro 2019 and A3s are compatible with my wireless headphones with Sony LDAC lossless audio coding technology.
By the way, Huawei Y6 Pro 2019 is also one of the few with built-in FM Radio antenna. No need to plug headphones before you can switch on the radio.
The mic on the A3s is the nicest and cleanest for me. Though overall quality are close to each other.
Battery
Huawei Y6 Pro 2019 comes with 3,020mAh of battery capacity. The Samsung Galaxy J4+ and OPPO A3s goes with bigger 3,300mAh and 4,230mAh respectively.Since it has the biggest battery capacity among the three, OPPO A3s still has the strongest battery performance with over 20 hours of work battery life.
Surprisingly, Y6 Pro 2019 with smaller 3,020mAh battery is in the second place with almost 6 hours of screen on time. It is equivalent to around 13 hours of work battery life.
Y6 Pro's battery performance is equivalent to most 4,000mAh phones. Thanks to its power efficient 12nm processor and software optimizations.
Next is the Galaxy J4+ under 5 hours of work battery life. It can still last for around 9 to 10 hours of daily usage. Still not bad.
Charging time on all three phones are slow. Y6 Pro and J4+ needs at least 3 hours. Surprisingly, the A3s with bigger battery only has 2 hours and 45 minutes of charging time.

Behind, all three phones have a 13MP camera setup. But not all 13MP cameras are created equal.

Galaxy J4+ camera interface |
On paper, the 13MP f/1.8 PDAF sensor of Huawei is ahead of the 13MP f/1.9 and 13MP f/2.2 of Samsung and OPPO, respectively.

OPPO A3s camera UI |
OPPO has a trick in its sleeve though, it goes with a secondary 2MP f/2.4 sensor for bokeh shots. It has a portrait mode for bokeh shots.
All of them has the ability to shoot good images in daylight with respectable overall quality for the PHP 6,990 price tag. There are times where Y6 Pro is ahead of J4+ and A3s and vice-versa.
Take a look at our camera samples below.

A3s burger shot |
Y6 Pro 2019 delivered the shot with the most accurate color and correct exposure. The shot from Samsung and OPPO are more saturated. It is hard to determine a winner in this scene, but I will go with the Samsung due to its slightly sharper details.

The output from the Galaxy J4+ is quite bad this time. The colors are reddish and far from accurate. It has more grain than the Y6 Pro 2019 and A3s as well.
It is a close match between the Y6 Pro 2019 and the A3s. Details are a bit sharper with slightly better contrast on the Y6 Pro 2019. There's just a bit of a glare as I forgot to clean the lens before taking the shot.

A3s dim |
Dynamic range are comparable in this scene. Noise are surprisingly low as well. Y6 Pro 2019 got the shot with slightly clearer exposure. J4+ has the most saturated flossom logo. I will go with the A3s with close to natural looking colors.

OPPO A3s night |
All of them are decent but not great for low light snaps. Fortunately, the Y6 Pro and A3s has a workaround to that problem, the robust pro/expert mode. If you know how to use it, the pro/expert mode can help you take better looking night shots.
For selfies, the Y6 Pro and A3s has an 8MP sensor. The Galaxy J4+ only has a 5MP snapper. Huawei also has the sensor with the widest f/2.0 aperture versus the f/2.2 of Samsung and OPPO.
It is evident in our tests that Huawei has the clear advantage for selfies with sharper details and more accurate colors. Both Huawei and Samsung comes with an LED flash for better low light selfies. The A3s only has a screen flash.
Huawei uses both the screen and the softlight LED flash to take clearer and well-exposed photo in low light. It is known as the Selfie Toning Flash 2.0 tech.

Not even close. Huawei Y6 Pro delivered the shot with the sharpest details and most accurate colors compared with the J4+ and A3s. The selfie on the A3s looks better than the selfie of J4+ though. The selfie with face beauty on the J4+ is too soft.

Dim selfie A3s |
For dim selfies, it is evident that the output by J4+ lags a lot again versus the Y6 Pro 2019 and the A3s. The shot on the A3s is wider, but the output from Y6 Pro has better details, colors, and dynamic range again. It has less noise than the two as well.

In low light with screen flash or flash, it is a close match between the Y6 Pro 2019 and the A3s. Both delivered images with respectable output. Y6 Pro got the more saturated image. The J4+ looks soft and blurry again.
All three phones shoots up to 1080p 30fps videos at the back and for selfies. Quality is about the same for the Y6 Pro and A3s. The J4+ take good daylight videos as well. Selfie videos on the J4+ needs improvement though.
Performance
![]() |
AnTuTu scores of the phone |
Among the three, Samsung Galaxy J4+ has the weakest performance. It is only using the slow and old 28nm Snapdragon 425 quad-core SoC. The A3s still has the slight advantage between the three as it is using the 14nm Snapdragon 450 octa-core solution.
Good speed for A3s and Y6 Pro 2019
Surprisingly, the 12nm MT6761 (Helio A22) quad-core chip of the Huawei Y6 Pro 2019 is near the level of the Snapdragon 450 even if it has less cores.
Moreover, the Huawei Y6 Pro 2019 has the bigger 3GB RAM/32GB storage versus the 2GB RAM/16GB storage of both Galaxy J4+ and A3s.
It made the Huawei Y6 Pro 2019 have better multitasking performance. You can store more apps, games, and files on Huawei's newest budget phone even without using a microSD card too.
Huawei also uses the EROFS technology to optimize the ROM performance of the phone.
Both the Y6 Pro and A3s can handle heavy games at either medium or low settings. The J4+ will struggle with gaming.
The UI

A3s UI |
Among the three, only Huawei Y6 Pro 2019 runs with the newest Android 9.0 Pie OS with the latest optimizations, features, and security patch from Android. Moreover, it has the EMUI 9.0 skin top to ensure its smooth performance with its Huawei exclusive machine learning optimizations.
To know more about the EMUI 9.0, click here.
On the other hand, Galaxy J4+ and OPPO A3s still runs on Android 8.1 Oreo OS. Personally, I like ColorOS 5.1 of OPPO versus the Samsung Experience skin.
Other features
All three phones arrived with a face unlock tech. The face unlock tech on the A3s is slightly faster than Y6 Pro 2019. The face unlock of the J4+ is the slowest. All of them has 4G LTE too.The one with the strongest signal for me is the Y6 Pro 2019. Band 28 700MHz LTE kinda works in places with very weak mobile data signal.
Only the A3s has a gyroscope sensor among the three for VR/AR apps. All has a dedicated dual SIM and microSD card slots.

Samsung Galaxy J4+ advantages - N/A
OPPO A3s advantages - Slightly faster Snapdragon 450 SoC, bigger battery capacity, dual-camera setup
Verdict
It is a battle between the Huawei Y6 Pro 2019 and the OPPO A3s. Samsung Galaxy J4+ has a decent looking design and respectable cameras, but it will fall short in overall performance versus the two above-mentioned smartphones. The OPPO A3s is the phone with the slightly faster chip and bigger battery capacity. It also has a dual-camera setup if you like to shoot images with bokeh background blur.
But personally, I will go with the Huawei Y6 Pro 2019 as it is the phone with the newer and sleeker design. As of writing, it is the most affordable with a tiny dew drop notch. It is also very handy despite having a big display. It is the only phone with 6-inch screen that I can operate with just 1 hand yet.
Moreover, it has the bigger RAM for multitasking and ROM to store more files than the A3s. In real life usage, the speed between the A3s and the Y6 Pro 2019 is not that noticeable.
I also like that it has the better selfie camera over the A3s. The audio quality on the Huawei Y6 Pro 2019 is insane for the price. Lastly, it is one of the most affordable with the latest Android 9.0 Pie OS.
In this battle, the champ for me is the Huawei Y6 Pro 2019.
