XTREME MF-4900s review

As a short background about XTREME, it was established under the Suntouch Technology Corporation seven years ago. Their products range from audio accessories like microphones and subwoofers to large appliances like air conditioners and televisions.

Today, we got in our hands the XTREME MF-4900s 49-inch Smart TV that has slim bezels and a built-in soundbar.

Unboxing/Accessories

As we unboxed the package, we found the TV, stand, two remote controls, power cable, warranty, and manual.

It's a good thing that there were received with triple-A batteries for both remote controls since some brands do not include those.

Build Quality/Design

The build of this smart TV is a combination of high-quality polycarbonate material and metal?

With that being said, this tends to be heavy so one must be extra careful in handling it. The metal stand was a bit tricky to assemble since there were no clear instructions about it.

Compared to the plastic stands of other televisions, these stands add a classy factor to the overall design. And practically speaking, metal is more durable compared to plastic.

After assembling the stands, the set-up process is somewhat convenient. You just have to plug the power cable then configure the settings using the bigger remote control.

For the first impression, the TV reeks of sophistication with its metallic silver finish and slim back panels. The ultra-thin bezels made the display look wider than 49 inches while the thick border does not distract in viewing aspects at all. And the thickness is justified since it was noted on the description that it has a built-in soundbar.

The XTREME MF-4900s 49-inch Smart TV has a small and unobtrusive branding in silver, located at the front of the soundbar area. There's also a sticker that indicates the TV's internals and the regulatory information located at the backside.
Various types of ports for connectivity
Various types of ports for connectivity

Looking at its backside, you can find the power-in port on one side whereas on the opposite side the following ports are located: USB 2.0, LAN, optical cable,  3 HDMI ports, AV-IN, Antenna, Line Out. If you want to plug in an ABS-CBN TVPlus or other media players, the traditional AV port is for that. A 3.5mm headphone port and an optical out are included, in case the user prefers to connect the TV with external speakers.

I like the fact that this TV has multiple ports to choose from since I can connect my devices for streaming, for gaming all at the same time. And what made this even greater is the clear labeling of the ports so you can see properly when plugging the cables.

Additionally, just in case you misplaced both of its remote controls, there's still a way to use or navigate it. The power/menu and volume buttons are positioned on the bottom left of the backside panel. It's somehow easy to use, without even looking.

Generally speaking, this smart TV from XTREME has an excellent build and design when compared to other TVs within the same price range.

Performance

The UHD display spans at 49-inches, with a 4K UHD resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels, plus HDR support. The 4K Ultra High Definition of this XTREME TV could translate into more pixels and higher resolutions, resulting in improved picture quality.

However, the HDR aspect of this device is on the average side. The dynamic range is not that wide but the contrast is sufficient for an IPS panel. You just have to manage your expectations since this would not come at par with the OLED TVs that have darker blacks.

The colors on the picture are vibrant enough for us to quite enjoy 3D animated films. It is also noticeable that they have the right amount of saturation. Though this aspect is still flexible to one's preference since the color temperature can be set into three options: default, warm, and cool.

Setting up the smart TV just took a few minutes and it's also great that it connected with our Wifi quickly. Since this runs with a Linux operating system, the setup interface seems inferior compared to TVs already running with an Android OS.

I consider this a minor issue because of the fact that you won't linger on that area that much. Apart from that, the instructions are pretty clear and straightforward so that's what is important as a user.

There were eight steps in setting up the TV and connecting to the Internet. First is choosing your preferred language, there's only three including English. The next step is selecting your country or location for time and local service purposes. Third, it is just basically confirming if you will be using the TV for personal or shop demo.

The fourth step of this process is choosing between a wired or wireless connection. There's also an option to name your TV, but the second to the last step is selecting the channel source if it's free-to-air or cable. The last thing to finish setting up your TV is confirming all of your choices.

We tested the unit by watching some local channels but we primarily enjoyed using it for Netflix and YouTube. Those two applications are already pre-installed but other streaming services are downloadable via App Store.

Both Netflix and Youtube detected that this smart TV has a 4K resolution and HDR support. As mentioned that it runs with a Linux OS, the interface wherein we are already browsing does not look bad at all. It even looks neat and intuitive so far.

As for the audio, the built-in speaker did an amazing job as we were immersed in the Netflix movie during testing. As I watched the movie  2 to 3 meters away from the TV, I can say that that the stereo experience surpassed my expectations.

This XTREME TV is also packed with features to improve sound quality. There's a sound mode in which the user can choose based on the content; from standard, music, movie, stadium, personal, news. Aside from that, a smart volume feature that is said to prevent a dramatic increase or decrease of audio from speakers. By turning on this feature, it makes sure all content sources from apps, channels or external devices will play sound at the same level of volume.

Moreover, the media formats supported by this device are somehow limited. If for example, you can not play those movies in your external drive that is not in MPEG format. I find this a bit tedious since most of the video files are commonly in MP4, AVI, WMV, FLV file formats.

I mentioned previously that this set includes two remote controls. The bigger remote control contains all the buttons to modify the setups and defaults of the TV.

The channel list is also included here. It is also notable that the buttons for Netflix and Youtube are big and noticeable, unlike in other remote controls that you have to navigate and search just to access them.

It is awesome that XTREME packaged these accessories with its smart TV to provide all the comfort in watching movies or series.

The other remote control is really a small one and has fewer buttons since this is designed purely for your Netflix marathons. Both remote controls have a sturdy build and practical design. They are also properly labeled, with symbols and acronyms for every button.

Pros - Sturdy and sleek build, multiple ports, rich colors, HDR support, handy remote controls, built-in soundbar, price
Cons - Contrast is average, limited options for media formats supported

Verdict

The XTREME MF-4900s is a suitable entertainment appliance if you are looking for a smart TV that can bring you a cinematic factor both in video and audio.

It has an enjoyable big display with crisp details and dual 12W down-firing speakers were able to deliver great audio overall.

Moreover, this TV will also make a nice centerpiece due to its stylish metal finish and ultra-slim bezels. Since it isn't that big, it can also help you save some space in your condo unit or small living room.

All in all, we strongly recommend the XTREME MF-4900s Smart TV despite a few shortcomings. We considered this as a sensible choice if you want an immersive viewing experience without draining your pocket.
