Apple earlier introduced its next-generation operating system for iPhones. From iOS 18, it won't be called iOS 19. Instead, it is dubbed as iOS 26.
Not iOS 19, meet iOS 26

iOS 26 is now official

The major name change makes sense as Apple wants version numbers to be in "years" as iOS 26 will likely be implemented by next year, 2026.

Aside from the name change, iOS 26 comes with a major visual redesign and plenty of AI-powered features.

Some of the highlights include the Liquid Glass Design, a new translucent material that dynamically reacts to movement, enhancing the interface with depth and dimensionality. Basically, it has plenty of focus on light and transparency.

Meanwhile, on the Lock Screen, Apple said that the time fluidly adapts to the available space in an image, and spatial scenes bring wallpapers to life with a 3D effect when users move their iPhone.

As expected, the company also gave it a much-needed update on Apple Intelligence (AI) with new integrated AI features like Messages, FaceTime, and Phone apps. The company also claims that these are powered entirely on-device for privacy.

It also has an improved Genmoji and Image Playground that provide users with even more opportunities for self-expression, including mixing their favorite emoji, Genmoji, and descriptions together to create brand-new images.

Other improvements highlight an updated CarPlay with a Liquid Glass interface with improved in-drive controls for safer navigation, a Safari browser update with edge-to-edge content viewing, a floating tab bar, and a more immersive browsing experience, Apple Music enhancements with an animated album art that moves with full-screen effects during playback, AI Call Screening that answers unknown calls and provides a summary before you decide to pick up, Camera with streamlined layout, Photo app with separate tabs for Library and Collections, and a new Apple Games app with game Overlay for quick updates during gameplay.

Apple said that developer betas are available today. The public beta is coming in July. The full releases will arrive in the fall.
