Grab readies partner-taxi drivers for cashless rides

7,000 GrabTaxis now ready for cashless rides

This came after the ride-hailing firm successfully conducted training programs for its taxi drivers and operators for the use of GrabPay for cashless payments, including hygiene practices to avoid the spread of the virus.

Over a short period of time, we were able to help our taxi drivers - who are previously cash-based and meter-based, embrace digitalization, and adapt to cashless. We believe that by adopting cashless payment for public transportation, we will reduce the risk of spreading the infection through cash,  but likewise improve our contact tracing capability, said Grab Philippines President Brian Cu.

Beginning yesterday, May 22, around 400 taxi drivers equipped with knowledge on cashless rides have started plying the roads of Baguio and Naga.

As we move towards the new reality, we would need to make significant adjustments in many aspects of our lives so that we can protect both the lives and livelihoods of our kababayans, Cu said.

Thousands of GrabTaxi drivers are still on a wait mode as the government only allows TNVS in areas under the general community quarantine.
