Back in February, Huawei filed a patent showing a foldable smartphone design with an inward folding display, cover display, and a stylus pen. The said device could be the Mate X2.

Fresh details on the upcoming Mate X2

Founder and Lead Analyst of DisplaySearch and DSCC Ross Young replied in a Tweet by leakster Evan Blass that the Mate X2 will come with an inward folding display which will be sourced from Samsung and BOE. The screens will be made out of Colorless Polyimide (CPI) film instead of ultra-thin "UTG" glass.

Blass said that the device will come with the "Teton" codename.

This is a totally new design coming from the Mate X and Mate Xs with outward folding screens.

Likely, the purpose of this design is to allow the upcoming Mate to transform into a regular smartphone exposing it back to prevent accidental scratches when placed on certain surfaces.

Going back to the patent, the device features a total of 6 cameras. It has four cameras at the back and two more cameras found on the vertical sidebar. The sidebar is where you will find the neatly hidden stylus pen.

If this is really the Mate X2, it could one-up the newly announced Galaxy Z Fold2 with a similar inward folding design, but without an S Pen.

Other details about the tablet are still unknown for now.

Let's wait and see.
