The new chips are based on the 3GPP Release 16 also known as 5G phase 2. These chips use an upgradable architecture that can enable new 5G features in the future.

Using the 1,000MHz bandwidth with 10 carrier aggregation, the X65 offers a peak download speed of up to 10 Gbps. X62, the lower-end chip can reach up to 4.6 Gbps and 400MHz. This supports both sub-6 and mmWave 5G.

The new chips are said to be designed to work with the new QTM545 mmWave antenna that can transmit at a higher power than previous designs. This new antenna also supports all global mmWave frequencies even the new n259 band at 41 GHz.

The new chips also have the "world's first" AI antenna tuning technology which can detect users' handgrip more accurately up to 30 percent to help improve data speeds, coverage, and battery longevity.

The chips also have the 5G PowerSave 2.0 with Connected-Mode Wake-Up Signal and Transmit 2.0 tech.

Qualcomm has sent samples of X65 and X62 to manufacturers. It is said that the first devices with the new 5G modems will be out by late 2021.
