During the said quarter, the ever-innovative
Chinese technology company vivo garnered 21 percent of the market share to reclaim the lead in the country. Closely following vivo is Chinese consumer electronics and mobile communications company OPPO with 20 percent of the pie for the number 2 spot.

Fast-rising two-year-old brand realme and notable South Korean firm Samsung both got 19 percent for the number 3 and 4 spot.

For the first time, Chinese multinational electronics company Xiaomi has entered the top 5 with 7 percent of the market share.

Counterpoint Research noted that the pandemic affected overall shipments as it falls 8 percent on an annual basis. But similar to its regional peers in SE Asia, the Philippines has enjoyed strong growth in online channels which register 50 percent more units in 2020 versus the previous year. 17 percent of the total shipments during the last quarter of 2020 went online.

On consumer purchasing trends, Counterpoint Research Senior Analyst Glen Cardoza says,

Price has always been important in the Philippines and last year was no exception, with average retail prices of top-10 device shipments in the $120-$150 range. In terms of specs, we’re starting to get a better picture of the balance between what consumers are willing to pay and the must-have features they want.
