Communicating online has become the new normal because of the ongoing pandemic. To stay safe at home, we do meetings, homeschooling, and more on mobile phones, tablets, laptops, and PCs.
Meet Logitech C922 Pro HD Stream, more than just a webcam?

Arguably, laptops or PCs are still the most suitable for work and play. AND, to do calls via Zoom, Teams, Meet, Twitch, Facebook Video Calling, and more while showing your face, you need a webcam.

However, not all webcams are created equal. Also, let's admit it, almost all built-in webcams on laptops are bad. Yes, even the cams found on expensive notebooks.

So, investing in a good one if you have the capacity to pay could be a good idea.

Swiss peripherals company Logitech claims that the C922 Pro HD Stream Webcam introduced in 2016 is still one of the webcam upgrades you deserve.

Let's check it out.

Meet Logitech C922 Pro HD Stream Webcam - Decent upgrade?

The camera arrived with Logitech's mint green small box showing the picture of the camera along with its key features.

After unboxing it, you will be greeted by the camera itself along with the paper documents. One bonus here is it has a FREE mini tripod.

The tripod

To my personal liking, the tripod Logitech included is steady enough to handle the weight of the webcam.

Thanks to the adjustable design of the cam, it is also tall enough to surpass the display of the laptop we are using.

For the build, it doesn't feel cheap for a web camera. Its frame is made out of a combination of matte plastic, glossy plastic, and rubber.

Rubber at the back is to provide a better grip with the tripod. The other rubber parts will allow its users to securely attach the camera to the monitor.

Adjustable design, durable-looking plastic build

Logitech said that the lens of its camera sensor is glass. But, the one covering it that shows the HD 1080p text and "logi" icon on the sides is similar to a glass-like plastic.

It is prone to fingerprint smudges as well so you might need to wipe it from time to time every time you accidentally touch the camera while adjusting it.

Using the camera is super easy. All you need to do is attach it to your monitor or use the tripod and plug its USB connector into your laptop or PC.

After that, open the program of your choice and select it as the camera.

Personally, I was able to use it for Zoom calls, Facebook Video Calling, and Video Conferencing via Microsoft Teams.

If you have the Logitech Capture software, you can use the webcam for content creation. It can be used to broadcast yourself on platforms like YouTube, Facebook Live, or Twitch via Open Broadcaster Software (OBS) or XSplit.

You can even choose between Frame Rate or Exposure as a priority when recording, select between Auto Focus or Manual Focus, adjust White Balance, select the resolution, choose the fps of your choice, and even add Watermark, Text Overlay, and Scene Effects. You can even adjust the Alt + shortcut keys of your choice.

For the picture quality, it is a step up coming from the built-in webcam of the laptop we are using.

First, the field of view is wider thanks to its 78-degree diagonal field of view. Second, grain is lesser. Third, colors are more accurate and not reddish.

This is not a perfect camera for photos though as it will struggle in dimmer lighting conditions. But, this still performs nicer than a lot of webcams out there photos.

An upgrade coming from your 480p or 720p webcam

For videos, it has the ability to record up to 1080p at 30fps and it is quite crisp for a webcam. We also noticed that it has reasonably fast and consistent autofocus.

It is recommended to use in a well-lit scenario. It will be even better if you have studio or ring lights. We also think that its "light correction tech" is working as the exposure is consistent most of the time.

We find it to be great for 1080p video callings.

If you want an even smoother-looking video, it has an option to use the 720p at 60fps. It has a bit of a crop coming from the 1080p mode though.

Our gripe here is it has a noticeable loss of details at 720p. My skin tone is noticeably smoother and unnatural-looking here.

Personally, I prefer the 1080p 30fps shooting mode of this camera.

A camera with stereo microphones

Moreover, it has two microphones. Compared to the decent microphones of our laptop, this is clearer, louder, and better in detail and resolution.

Dedicated microphones are still better, but if you don't have one or you do not want to spend on one, this could be the next best thing.

However, if you have an old mid-range or high-end smartphone with a working camera and you have a separate microphone, I personally prefer its smartphone picture quality via DroidCam wirelessly despite not having the 60fps option.

Quick thoughts

At PHP 6,475, the price of this webcam might be a bit steep. However, it is a big upgrade coming from the crappy built-in webcams of most laptops. It is also better than a lot of cheap web cameras we experienced in the past.

We liked that it is capable of 1080p 30fps recording, the build is durable-looking, and it is still a pretty good webcam for work, school, and even play in 2021. It also has a pretty good quality stereo microphone, a feature that is not that common on webcams.

It is not perfect as I personally wish that its 720p 60fps mode would not look that soft, but in general, the experience we had with this webcam is mostly positive.

This is one of the dedicated webcams to consider.

Note: Originally, the Logitech C922 Pro HD Stream Webcam retails for PHP 6,475, but you can get it now at around PHP 5,500 to PHP 5,828 at Shopee and Lazada, respectively.
