Huawei MatePad New unboxing and first impression |
At a glance, this Huawei MatePad features a 10.4-inch IPS FullView screen with 2000 x 1200 2K resolution. Inside, it also has the Huawei Kirin 820 SoC, 4GB RAM, 128GB expandable storage, and a 7,250mAh battery.
Without further ado, let's do the unboxing.
Unboxing/Accessories
 |
What's in the box? |
The new Huawei MatePad arrived in an elegant white box with bronze Huawei MatePad branding on the cover. It also has the specs and regulatory information around the box as well. Inside the box, you get the MatePad 10.4 wrapped in a protective bag.
There are two compartments that house the USB-C cable, SIM eject tool, wall charger, and documentation.
Build Quality/Design
 |
The Huawei MatePad New has a premium feel and look |
Upon taking out of the box, the new Huawei MatePad feels premium out of the box. It has build made out of glass and metal. It does not have a rubber gasket on the SIM tray so it doesn't seem to have water resistance.
The frame of the MatePad seems to have a rubber-like material covering it for additional protection. |
Back |
At the back, you will see the rear camera bump and Huawei branding. In front, it has a 10.4-inch IPS FullView screen with 2000 x 1200 2K resolution.
The right-side bezel houses the 8MP ultra-wide selfie camera. This gives the impression that you mostly need to use it in landscape mode, especially during video calls. There is no mention of glass protection though. |
Top |
At the top, you get two speaker grills and a power/lock button. |
Bottom |
The bottom houses two more speaker grills and the USB-C port.
 |
Left |
 |
Right |
The right side has the volume buttons while the left side has the SIM card tray. |
8MP rear camera |
At the back, you get the 8MP f/2.0 sensor with AF and LED flash. It can capture decent photos at good lighting and 1080p videos at 30fps.
Other features include, face unlock, WiFi 6, 4G LTE, Bluetooth 5.1, OTG, GPS, GLONASS, BDS, Galileo, quad-speakers with Huawei Histen 6.1, and quad-microphones. It is running Android 10 with EMUI 10.1.
It measures 245.2 x 154.96 x 7.35 mm and weighs 450 g. It is not that big and heavy for a 10-inch big tablet.

As of the moment
 |
So far it is a great machine for media with its crisp screen and loudspeakers |
Out of the box, the Huawei MatePad New looks to be a great tablet pickup.
It has a premium look and feels that is both lightweight and up-to-date. With Kirin 820 at its core, it also feels snappy and can be a great companion for both work and play. The added value of Huawei Pencil support opens up more uses too.
This is faster than the Kirin 810-powered MatePad last year. It is more affordable as well since there are no cellular capabilities this time.
We are looking forward to spending more time with the Huawei MatePad new and see how well it fares after extended usage.
What do you guys think?
