DITO to expand coverage to home within 2021?

Its chief technology officer Rodolfo Santiago said the third telco player has to conduct user-friendly testing before it could commercially launch the service to home customers.

He stressed that while the group will not use fiber, customers will still enjoy fast internet connections as DITO will use its 5G network.

We’re going to provide ‘to-the-home’ service using our wireless access. We’ll provide fiber-like services without using fiber. This is the fastest means of providing fixed broadband ‘di ka na kakailanganin kumuha ng right-of-way for fiber optic cable, Santiago said.

The executive also cited DITO's second-year performance audit, where independent auditors recorded 853 megabits per second for its 5G sites. Santiago said DITO "will be able to provide that to the home.

But he said DITO will eventually invest in fiber-to-the-home.

Earlier this week, DITO said it passed the second technical audit, where its coverage reached 52.75 percent. In terms of speed, DITO was able to record minimum average broadband speeds at 89.13 Mbps for 4G and 853.96 Mbps for 5G.

Currently, DITO continues its network buildup for its mobile services to cover more areas.
