TikTok is the top earning app while PUBG Mobile is still the no.1 among paid games!

Data from Sensor Tower Store Intelligence shows that both TikTok and PUBG Mobile continue their reign as the highest-earning apps in Q3.

Consumer spending for mobile games and apps are still increasing

The report shows global consumer spending and first-time installs of apps rose across App Store and Play Store rose to USD 33.6B and USD 35.7B, respectively. The surge in digital spending is mostly attributed to the assumption that users searched for something to do during the pandemic. 

Sensor Tower reported that the growth is mainly because of Google Play as its consumer spending went up by 18.6 percent from USD 10.2 B to USD 12.1B, year on year. Meanwhile, the App Store from Apple had a modest increase since it experienced higher spending in previous years with its profit climbed from 13.2 percent. 

The research company noted that consumers spent about 1.8 times as much on Apple’s marketplace when compared to Google's Play Store previously.

However, the report revealed that year-over-year growth has experienced a slump since the initial increase in adoption and spending in the second quarter of 2020.

Moreover, the data from Sensor Tower indicated that TikTok grabbed the number 1 spot among paid apps worldwide, across both app stores in the third quarter. Recently, it got a total of around 3 billion total installs.

TikTok got the first ranking in Apple, but it's the same case in Google Play Store. This is due to the Google One app is in the top spot. Piccoma went up to the 2nd spot with its 130 percent increase. Meanwhile, YouTube and Disney+ both landed in the fifth ranking. 

Aside from that, consumer spending for mobile games grew by 7.7 percent globally according to the report, mainly driven by Google Play Store. App Store's revenue increased by 5.6 percent while Google Play spending went up by  10.7 percent.

PUBG Mobile, including its Chinese localization Game For Peace, was retained on top among paid mobile games worldwide. It was able to surpass USD 5B revenue in the first quarter of this year. In the third quarter, consumer spending in the game climbed 11 percent year on year.

Meanwhile, Honor of Kings and Genshin Impact landed on the 2nd and 3rd spot, respectively, among the top 5 earning games. The Honor of Kings experienced a decline by 5 percent in the 3rd quarter. On the other hand, Genshin Impact has already generated USD 2 billion in consumer spending in its first year.

Pokémon Go and Roblox also entered the top five rankings. Pokémon Go consumer spending went down by 8 percent whereas Roblox had a 9 percent growth compared to the third quarter last year.
