Ascend defeats Gambit!

The VALORANT 2021 Champions Tour has concluded with Europe's Ascend Esports defeating Russia's Gambit Esports in the grand finals held in Berin, Germany which earned the team the title of VALORANT World Champion.

Over one million concurrent viewers from Twitch, YouTube, Afreeca and Trovo tuned into the match where Ascend won three games to two which secured the Champions trophy. The team was led by strong performances from CNed and StarXo. What makes the win even more impressive is that Ascend did not drop a single game during the initial stages of the tournament.

“We were thrilled with the success of Champions! This tournament demonstrated the global resonance of VALORANT as a sport and that any team, from any region, can step up to be a contender for the Champions Trophy,” said Kasra Jafroodi, Global Strategy Lead for VALORANT Esports. “Seeing the level of competition rise around the world is an incredible sign of the continued growth of our game as we head into our next season in February.”

Sixteen teams from North America, South America, Europe and Asia which includes the all-Filipino Team Secret that secured a spot in the Top 8

While Ascend won the finals, Latin America's KRU Esports stole the hearts of fans around the world with their stellar performance and defeating former champions Sentinels from North America.

The Champions was the final event of the Champions Tour which began in January 2021 with over 10,000 teams attempting to qualify for the final event across regional challenger events and international Masters events. The next season will kick off in February with VALORANT Challengers.
