DITO Telecommunity to spend over PHP 50 billion for 2022 network rollout

DITO Telecommunity Chief Technology Officer Rodolfo D. Santiago bared this during a virtual briefing on Thursday. Santiago said the third telco player seeks to cover 70 percent of the country's population by mid-2022 or earlier.

By July, the official also expressed optimism the new entrant could deliver 55 megabits per second (Mbps) average download speed. So far, the company has already deployed 4,5000 towers. It has to roll out 300 more towers to hit its goal of covering 70% of the population.

For network build, we are implementing more than P50 billion… for 2022, essentially to reach 70 percent population coverage this year, Santiago said.

DITO said that as of February, it already gained 6 million mobile subscribers—already half of its subscriber base goal for the year.

In March 2021, DITO, which is backed by China Telecom and Davao-based businessman Dennis Uy, officially launched its mobile services in select areas in the country.
