Musk answered the request for Starlink stations in Ukraine
There were reports that Russia has been trying to disrupt Ukraine's internet access. Internet monitoring group NetBlocks and GigaTrans said that Ukraine's main internet service provider has seen its traffic disrupted since February 24.
NetBlocks also reported internet outages in major Ukrainian cities such as Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Mariupol.
In response to this situation, Ukraine's minister of digital transformation Mykhailo Fedorov Tweeted Musk, asking for help. He posted,
While you try to colonize Mars—Russia tries to occupy Ukraine! While your rockets successfully land from space—Russian rockets attack Ukrainian civil people! We ask you to provide Ukraine with Starlink stations and to address sane Russians to stand.
Ten hours after that tweet, Musk said that Starlink's services are activated and more terminals are en route.
Reportedly, the Twitter exchange took place as Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered his country's deterrence forces to be placed on high alert. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Deputy Interior Minister Evgeny Yenin said talks between Russian and Ukrainian delegations will take place this Monday.
To recall, Starlink is a satellite-based internet constellation intended to blanket the planet in high-speed broadband. This could potentially bring connectivity to billions of people who still lack reliable internet access.
According to SpaceX, the Starlink system was used in Tonga to provide internet service to connect remote villages following the eruption of an underwater volcano in January.
