Globe sees higher 5G device penetration this year

According to Globe's latest press release, the local telco giant is expecting a higher 5G device penetration this year.

Globe: More will connect to 5G this year

The company said that this is due to its continuous expansion of 5G coverage in the country as well as the release of more affordable 5G-read handsets.

The telco giant claimed that by the end of 2021, they have detected over 1.62 million devices in its networks, a huge chunk came from p[repaid brands. Versus the first quarter last year, it showed a massive 300 percent ownership growth in the fourth quarter last year.

As of date, Globe said that it has now over 2,000 5G sites with an outdoor coverage of 96 percent in the National Capital Region (NCR) and 84 percent of key cities in Visayas and Mindanao.

The expansion activities were supplemented by the company’s efforts to push 5G adoption through product offers and education so that customers can experience the full power of the new technology.  Globe has made several entry-level and mid-range 5G models available for free if subscribed to a postpaid plan or at a price that is easy on the wallet if bought separately.

We expect this momentum to continue, especially as all major device partners today carry and banner 5G handsets in their portfolios coupled with our continued 5G network expansion, said Darius Delgado, Globe Head of Consumer Mobile Business.

Apart from local 5G connectivity,. Globe also added its 5G roaming services in more countries in Europe. The company said that it will continue to partner with more 5G-ready telcos worldwide to allow customers to enjoy a convenient high-speed data roaming experience.

To recap, Globe pioneered 5G in the Philippines and Southeast Asia as the first operator to commercially launch 5G AirFiber for Home use in 2019.
