In case you missed it, the new OPPO smartphones are made for creators. What we have in this article is the Reno7 Z 5G, the more affordable among the two. It sports a 6.43-inch rigid AMOLED screen with a 180Hz touch sampling rate, FHD+ resolution, punch-hole for the 16MP selfie camera, and an In-Display fingerprint reader.

Inside it has a 2.4GHz 6nm Snapdragon 695 octa-core processor with Adreno 619 GPU, 8GB LPDDR4X RAM, 128GB expandable storage, and 4,500mAh battery with USB-C 33W SUPERVOOC.

At first look, here's what we learned about the OPPO Reno7 Z 5G.

The unit arrives in a slider box with the familiar OPPO design. It has a huge 7 printout in front in place of the product render.

Inside we find the OPPO Reno7 Z 5G with a pre-installed screen protector, 33W SUPERVOOC power brick, USB-A to USB-C charging cable, silicone case, SIM ejector tool, and paper documents.

There are no 3.5mm earphones included despite its slot presence in the handset.

Build Quality/Design

OPPO Reno7 Z 5G has a plastic backplate, metallic frame, and glass display. It has a boxier look and flat sides. Its SIM card tray has a rubber gasket suggesting that it is somehow protected against water splashes (there is no water resistance rating though).

Despite its plastic build, the Reno7 Z 5G doesn't feel too fragile. It can sustain drops without breaking. Notably, its smooth matte design makes it gorgeous and smudge-free.

There's no mention of any Gorilla Glass protection but the handset comes with a pre-installed screen protector.

At the back, we find the flat rectangular design that somehow houses the triple camera setup and LED flash with "AI Portrait Camera" text at the bottom. We'd love to note how protruding lenses illuminate a blue light when the phone is charging or when you get notifications.

Obviously, we were loaned with the Cosmic Black variant. But, it is also available in the Rainbow Spectrum version with gradient colors.

Dual Orbit Lights around the protruding lenses!

OPPO Reno7 Z 5G is easy on the hands and has a nice grip with or without the silicone case.

In front, we have the 6.43-inch rigid AMOLED screen with a 180Hz touch sampling rate and FHD+ resolution. It has an upper left punch-hole to make room for the selfie camera. The three-side bezels are slim while the chin bezel is a little large.

On top, we find the secondary microphone. While the 3.5mm headphone jack slot, main microphone, USB-C port, and single bottom-firing grille speaker are at the bottom.

The triple-slot SIM tray and volume buttons are on the left side of the device. While the power button lies on the right side alone.

And in case you're wondering, the handset weighs 173 g and measures 159.85 x 73.17 x 7.49 mm.

That's not bad for a device with a large 4,500mAh battery with 33W SUPERVOOC charging support.

For the back cameras, it comes with the 64MP f/1.7 with PDAF + 2MP monochrome + 2MP f/2.4 depth + LED flash. However, it has no ultra-wide shooter.

We will share some of the shots we took in our full review.

Design-wise, the OPPO Reno7 Z 5G is a beautiful smartphone. We also find the lights on the camera rings cool. Its display is also immersive and it has 5G connectivity.

In our initial experience, we find it to be speedy enough. Everything is usable as well.

However, versus most competing PHP 19,999 smartphones, even if it is slightly upgraded coming from the Reno6 Z 5G, we are not that impressed as it has no high refresh rate and we find it weird why there's no ultra-wide shooter.

But, we have yet to fully review it and see if this is worthy of your next phone upgrade.
