One UI 5, which is based on Android 13, adds new customization, security, and accessibility capabilities. The company launched the beta program back in August, and now there has been an upgrade.

Visual Update

First up, it now has new aim icons and illustrations. It now has larger icons for an easier way of identifying apps. It also has new background gradient effects and improved contrast. To ensure that all of the apps have a uniform appearance, new help illustrations have been made.

The transition between screens is now touted to feel more natural thanks to new animations and transitional effects. When you touch the screen, animations, and other visual feedback display immediately, improving the intuitiveness of interactions. Additionally, the pace of scrolling has been increased to improve the overall experience of the One UI 5.

Brighter colors have been used to improve background blur effects on the quick panel, Home screen, and across One UI for a clearer and more unified experience. You can focus on your present activity and prevent distractions by using apps with straightforward color schemes.

Customization Features

You now just need to tap and hold the lock screen to customize the wallpaper, clock style, notification settings, and more. In addition, there are now more wallpaper choices and settings. It can also pick the color palette for within 16 color themes based on your wallpaper.

Simple caller identification set a distinct call background for each contact so you can quickly and easily identify who is calling.

Performance and usage improvements

You can now choose a mode based on your current task and activity. Modes can let you choose what functions are available in a particular situation. For instance, you can choose a mode meant for relaxing and it will set Do Not Disturb automatically. Another example is setting mode for your commute so that it will automatically play music when activated.

When it's time for bed, you can automate more tasks using Sleep mode, such as activating Dark mode and switching the sound mode.

Routines are also meant to be easier to use with a more simplified layout. The top of the Routines page now displays the currently running Routines so you can see what's going on and make modifications as needed.

When you are using Mobile Hotspot or Airplane mode, procedures might be started automatically. Routines can now open app pairs and change the balance of the left and right channels.

These are just a few of the improved experiences in One UI 5. You can check the complete list of changes here.

It is currently available for download in India and Europe for the Samsung Galaxy S22 series. Local availability may come in the next few weeks. You can also check your Galaxy S22 device if you have one.
