Reports of Google Pixel 7's camera glass randomly shattering surfaced on Twitter and Reddit. These apparently broke without being dropped or bumped.

Several Google Pixel 7 camera glasses apparently broke for no reason

Google Pixel 7 series owners are reporting these breakages online on different platforms. These reports have been popping up since November and are only getting attention online this month. These are apparently happening randomly. No bumps or drops to initiate breaks, just random.

Photos show both the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro sporting broken camera glasses. According to reports, owners are being quoted USD 200 to USD 400 for repairs. Some are lucky enough to be repaired under warranty but most are not. Some even report that their glass shattered not even 1 month after getting their Pixel 7.

What we can get gather from all the reports, most of them seem to be related to extreme temperatures. One user reported it shattering after going from a 16-degree Celsius room to a -2 degrees Celsius area. Another reported breakage after they came in from -15 degrees Celsius. The glass seems to become brittle due to the cold temperatures they were exposed to.

Google does not warranty most of the damaged devices due to the "physical" nature of the damage. We hope that Google backpedals from this position because glass going brittle after cold temps are not something a user can avoid.
