The latest achievement makes GForest one of the biggest digital environmental movements in the country, the company said in a statement.

CJ Alegre, GCash AVP for Sustainability, shared that GForest has been seeing "rapid growth" since its launch in 2019.

This goes to show that many Filipinos are onboard our goal of rehabilitating our forests to help reverse the ill-effects of climate change. Likewise, we’re grateful for the hard work of our partners to regenerate our forests while empowering local communities in reforestation initiatives, Alegre said.

Through GForest, users can contribute to alleviating the impact of climate change by collecting "green energy points" after tapping the platform's cashless services.

The green energy points can be used to plant a virtual tree. In turn, GCash and its partners would plant an actual tree.

GCash said it is on track to hit its goal of planting 2.3 million trees within the year.
