Government allows 90-day SIM registration extension

Mobile subscribers have 90 more days to register their SIM cards, according to Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla.

More time to register!

Remulla confirmed this following the sectoral meeting in Malacañang this morning, where government officials discussed the status of SIM registration.

He said Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Secretary Ivan John Uy will announce the details later.

The DICT can extend the SIM registration for up to 120 days.

Under the law, the SIM registration would only run until Wednesday, April 26. But telco operators had called on the government to extend the process as only less than half of the total subscriber base was registered.

The latest data available showed that there were more than 82.84 million SIM registrations.

Globe Telecom, Smart Communications, and DITO Telecommunity previously said extending the process would allow more Filipinos to secure the government IDs required to register.
