Meet OPPO Reno10 Pro 5G!

To recap, introduced the OPPO Reno10 series in China back in May 2023. Now in August, OPPO has finally brought the series to the Philippines.

At PHP 29,999, the new phone features a large 6.7-inch 10-bit 3D AMOLED screen with a 2412 x 1080 resolution, a 950nits peak brightness, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a 240Hz touch sampling rate. Inside is the Snapdragon 778GB SoC, LPDDR4X RAM, UFS 2.2 storage, and a 4,600mAh battery with 80W SUPERVOOC charging.

At the back are the 50MP main camera, 32MP telephoto camera, and 8MP ultra-wide angle camera with an LED flash while in front is a 32MP selfie camera.

Let's unbox it first.

It comes in a new light grey packaging with a holographic patch. Around the box are the OPPO branding, key specs and features, and regulatory information.

Inside the box are the phone, SIM ejector tool, USB-A to USB-C cable, 80W SUPERVOOC wall charger, bumper case, and documentation.

At first glance, the OPPO Reno10 Pro 5G is stunning. Upon closer inspection, it is apparent that the phone is made of glass front and rear panels with a polycarbonate frame. This combination allows for a solid and premium feeling phone while being slim and lightweight.

As mentioned above, the 6.7-inch 3D curved AMOLED screen with a 2412 x 1080 resolution, a 950nits peak brightness, a 120Hz refresh rate and a 240Hz touch sampling rate. It has a 93 percent screen-to-body ratio and it supports 100 percent of the DCI-P3 color gamut.

Around the panel are the thin bezels that are nearly symmetrical. There is a punch hole in the upper part of the panel. On the slim top bezel is the super slim ear piece.

Images produced by the panel are what we expect from a modern AMOLED Panel with crisp text with bright and vibrant colors.

At the back are the 50MP f/1.8 primary camera with 6P lens, AF, and OIS, the 32MP f/2.0 telephoto camera with 6P lens and AF, and the 8MP f/2.2 ultra-wide camera with 5P lens with fixed focus and LED flash.

Powerful mid-range cameras!

The stock camera app includes the following modes: Photo, Video, Portrait, Night, Pro, Extra HD, Pano, Slo-Mo, Time-lapse, Dual-View Video, Sticker, and Text Scanner.

Its built-in Pro mode allows for control of ISO (100-6400), Shutter Speed (1/8000-30 seconds), EV (+- 3), Focus, and White Balance. Users can also switch between 1x, 2x, or 3x zooms. There is an option to display the histogram in the corner too.

In daylight, the rear cameras produced images that have decent sharpness but with good color, contrast, clarity, and detail.

When taking pictures close-up, the 1x camera has a longer minimum focusing distance but produces stunning results. The fall-off from the in-focus areas and the out-of-focus areas (bokeh) is smooth. In addition to this, the sharpness and detail in the in-focus areas are tack sharp.

In low light, the primary 1x camera performed the best. The rest of the cameras struggled especially the 5x and the ultra-wide. Detail and sharpness took an obvious loss.

The Reno10 Pro 5G's night mode remedies the concerns with the low light performance as it dramatically reduces noise and improves color, contrast, sharpness, and detail If your subject is not moving, we recommend using the night mode.

Overall, the rear cameras' images produced mostly positive results with only the 5x and ultra-wide struggling with low light. Night mode is a must for still subjects in low light environments.

The 32MP front-facing camera features the following mode: Photo, Video, Night, and Portrait.

Selfie portrait

In daylight conditions, the front-facing cameras produced selfies with good sharpness, detail, color, and contrast. What caught our interest is when we used portrait mode, the color accuracy became off. If you look at the skin tones and the blue Shmoo logo on the shirt, the colors are not exactly the same.
Selfie low light
Selfie low light

In low light, the selfie performed decently. Even though there was some loss of sharpness, the subject's skin tone is correct while the contrast is deep enough. There is some visible noise in the highlights and in the shadows.

Like with the rear cameras, the night mode of the selfie camera's dramatically improved the color, sharpness, and detail of the low-light selfie.

Overall, the selfie camera's performance is impressive. The daylight images are what we expect from OPPO. Our only concern is the portrait mode's color accuracy. Otherwise, the Reno10 Pro 5G's selfie game is strong.

Performance

AnTuTu and GeekBench results
AnTuTu and GeekBench results

Inside are the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G octa-core processor, Adreno 642L GPU, 12GB LPDDR4X RAM at 2133HMz 2x16 bit, and 256GB UFS 2.2 storage.

Snapdragon 778G is still fast, but it would have been better if OPPO used newer chips...

We ran some benchmarks including Antutu where we got a score of 634,822. While on Geekbench we got 1,013 points on the single core and 2,842 on the multi-core tests.
3DMark and CPDT
3DMark and CPDT

In 3DMark Wild Life Extreme the phone managed to score 2,484 overall with an average of 14.9 fps. While si CPDT scored 753.28MB/s in sequential read speeds and it scored 429.47 MB/s in sequential write speeds.

In real-life use, the phone runs smoothly. We have yet to experience stuttering or slowdowns in the one month we had with the Reno10 Pro 5G.
Genshin Impact graphic settings
Genshin Impact graphic settings

The phone unlocked low graphics as the default for Genshin Impact. As expected, the phone runs the game smoothly but slows down when the screen fills up with animations. The phone warmed up slowly up over time. It never got too hot to hold even after playing for 3 hours straight but we recommend playing in a cool environment if you can help it.
OPPO Reno10 Pro 5G Battery usage
OPPO Reno10 Pro 5G Battery usage

The 4,600mAh battery managed to last for 11 hours and 36 minutes in our usual PCMark Battery benchmark. However, it crashed so there is no screenshot of the benchmark result itself. I proceeded to screenshot the battery usage after the benchmark crashed. The above screenshot on the left side is the result.

While the screenshot on the right is the daily usage of the OPPO Reno10 Pro 5G.  In daily usage, the phone yields at least 6 hours of on-screen time after a long work day where the phone is constantly connected to WiFi, 5G, or LTE. We also used it as a WiFi hotspot for several hours. What surprised us is even after a long work day, the phone still had 34 percent battery left. ColorOS's battery optimization has steadily gotten better over time.

The 80W SUPERVOOC charger charges the phone from 0 to 100 percent in under an hour while maintaining low temperatures. Topping up has always been a joy with how fast the phone charges.

The single bottom-firing speakers produce some of the loudest volumes from a smartphone. However, we recommend lowering it to 70 percent as it has the best balance of loudness and audio quality. At higher volumes, the sound becomes distorted.

The In-Display fingerprint reader and Face Unlock are easy and quick to set up. Once set up, both detect our face and our fingerprint immediately unlock the phone. The camera struggles when the environment is dark or when we are wearing a mask. The screen brightens up to compensate for dark situations.

For connectivity, 5G, VoLTE, WiFi, Bluetooth, and NFC work consistently and as expected.

It is using a custom skin on top of Android 13-based ColorOS 13.1. It features minor visual improvements over the previous generation while adding features from Android 13. If you didn't like ColorOS then, odds are you won't like this one either.

Quick thoughts

The OPPO Reno10 Pro 5G offers a stunning body design, with powerful rear and front cameras, great battery life, and fast 80W wired charging in a lightweight body.

Our main concern is that at its expected price point, its benchmark and gaming performance may struggle with similarly priced smartphones.

One minor gripe is the single speaker because the majority of the premium mid-range phones in recent memory have begun offering stereo speakers.

But do not get us wrong, the phone has a ton of positives which include: a beautiful design, a lightweight body, a fast, vibrant, and crisp display, powerful cameras, a long-lasting battery life, and fast wired charging.

One other feature we love is the front-facing stereo speakers and the inclusion of the cooling fan inside the box.

Do you agree with us? What do you guys think?
