It is indeed a historic day with Meta launching its new app Threads.

This app, which is seen as a direct competitor of Twitter, is part of the Instagram platform.

Threads is a new app, built by the Instagram team, for sharing text updates and joining public conversations, Meta said in a post.

Generally, it functions like the bird app. Users can create a post (that looks like a tweet), repost, and quote a post.

Meta said posts can be up to 500 characters long and include links, photos, and videos up to 5 minutes in length.

Comparing text limit, Twitter allows up to 280. This can be expanded to 25,000 but users need to subscribe to Twitter Blue.

When it comes to posting photos and videos, these cannot be in one post on Twitter. There is also a limit of four pictures or four videos per Tweet.

In Threads, users can upload up to 10 photos and videos combined in one post.

Thinking of opening your own account? Here's how:

1. Open the app then log in through your Instagram account. For now, this is the only option to create a Threads account. You can also switch accounts if you have multiple IG accounts.
2. Set up your profile, which you can manually do, or just tap "Import from Instagram" to automatically complete the details needed.
3. Choose if you want a public or private profile.
4. Follow other users. You can search or automatically follow the same accounts you follow on IG.
5. Tap "Join Threads."

This is what a Threads feed will look like. Below the screen are the icons for your feed, the search tab, create thread tab, the activity tab, and the profile tab.

On your profile, you will access your threads and replies.

Just hours after its launch, Threads has already recorded over 10 million users.

We're working to soon make Threads compatible with the open, interoperable social networks that we believe can shape the future of the internet, Meta said.

Have you tried the app yet? Are you team Twitter or team Threads?
