PLDT's wireless business Smart Communications continued to lead the local mobile market in terms of subscriber base, thanks to the popularity of TNT.
Citing research from NielsenIQ, Smart said TNT was the leading mobile brand while Smart Communications was the top mobile group.
Conducted from January 5 to April 3, with 1,175 participants, the study found that 46 percent claimed to own or use a TNT mobile SIM, “significantly higher” than the competition. Meanwhile, 14 percent of the respondents were Smart Prepaid users, and 1 percent were Sun Prepaid.
By region, TNT leads mobile brands in terms of claimed users across all surveyed areas except in Mindanao.
TNT leads in the Visayas with 60 percent of the surveyed respondents claiming to own and use a TNT mobile SIM; Balance Luzon with 46 percent and Mega Manila area with 39 percent claimed TNT SIM users.
TNT's telco services are powered by Smart, which was recently recognized by Ookla as the fastest mobile network in the country last first quarter.
