High score of 154!

Launched earlier this month, the new Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max introduces several new features including the new Titanium build, the 3nm Apple A17 Pro, and a set of new cameras made of a 48MP f/1.78 wide camera with second generation sensor shift OIS, a 12MP f/2.2 ultra-wide with macro and a 12MP f/2.8 120mm equivalent 5x tetra prism telephoto camera with an LED flash.

The main 48MP wide camera also allows users to switch between 24, 28 and 35mm as their primary focal length.

Apple also introduced that the main wide camera and wide camera can work together to capture Spatial Videos. It can capture up to 4K at 60fps.

Several weeks after the announcement, Independent benchmarking laboratory DxOMark revealed its findings after testing the new smartphone.

They praise the phone for its excellent camera experience for both photography and videography which is attributed to its enhanced HDR imaging format. In standard setting video capture experience, the phone is consistently ahead of the competition. It also captures portraits with impressive skin-tone accuracy and face exposure in various lighting conditions. There is zero shutter lag. DxOmark also said that there is a significantly improved zoom capability for long ranges over previous generations and there is an excellent and refined background blur in portraits that can be added even after a photo has been taken.

DxOMark also pointed out the negatives including the limited zoom quality before the tele camera took over. In low-light, the phone takes longer to capture the moment and images are grainy. Lastly, image quality innovations like HDR are only visible within the Apple ecosystem.

Overall, the iPhone 15 Pro Max scored 153 in Photo, 80 (top score) in Bokeh, 86 in Preview, 142 in Zoom and 158 (top score) in Video. This resulted in an overall score of 154 which places it in second place just under the HUAWEI P60 Pro.
