Securing your GCash account vs online attacks

Double-check before you click

Fraudsters continue to find ways how they can infiltrate anyone’s account. And the only thing account owners can do is ensure they put in place enough protection.

When it comes to GCash accounts, here are some reminders when it comes to ensuring account security:

  • NEVER share your GCash MPIN or OTP with anyone. MPIN refers to your 4-digit password, while OTP or the authentication code is the 6-digit you receive, say when you transfer funds to your GCash account
  • Access your GCash account through a SAFE DEVICE
  • Utilize the GCash DOUBLESAFE feature. This protects your account through two levels of authentication

For fully-verified users, follow these steps to activate DoubleSafe:

  1. Open your GCash app and input your mobile number
  2. Tap Send Code and input the 6-digit authentication code sent via SMS
  3. Tap MPIN Login and enter your MPIN
  4. Prepare for a selfie scan and tap Next
  5. Take your selfie scan

For Basic users:

(Note: Two OTPs will be sent to your registered number)
  1. Open your GCash app and input your mobile number.
  2. Tap Send Code and input the 6-digit authentication code (OTP) sent via SMS
  3. Tap MPIN Login and enter your MPIN
  4. Input the 2nd OTP that will be sent through SMS

You will not be able to access your GCash account for 24 hours if you have 5 failed attempts. You may retry after 24 hours.

SET UP security questions

  1. On your GCash homepage, tap Profile > Settings
  2. Tap Account Recovery > Security Questions > Next
  3. Select 5 Security Questions and input your answers. Tap Confirm
  4. Review your answers and tap Confirm
  5. You'll be led to a page that confirms the activation of your security questions.

Enable BIOMETRICS log in through Face ID or fingerprint
REGULARLY change your MPIN (can be every three months)

Make sure that you have all these in place to make sure that you have that added layer of protection for your GCash account amid these uncertain times.
