Sony unveils PS5 Slim with detachable Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive

Three years after the launch of the PlayStation 5, Sony now revealed a slim version also dubbed as the 2023 variant.

Based on Sony's claims the new smaller thinner model brings the identical technology as the standard PS5. However, they managed to cut down the volume by more than 30 percent, weight by 18 percent, and 24 percent versus the previous iterations (PS models). It has four distinct cover panels, the top of which is glossy while the bottom is matte.

Meanwhile, Sony has included a bulge on the Slim version's side for the disc drive that can be removed and replaced. In addition, each side now has two slits, and the front now has dual USB-C connectors in place of the current PS5's single USB-C and USB-A ports. 

Furthermore, Sony will add a horizontal stand on this version as well. While right now, the brand has introduced a vertical stand compatible with all PS5 variants. However, this is sold separately.

Another good news here is that Sony promised the new Slim variant will have a similar price as the regular model.

The new PS5 will arrive in the US next month (November) and once the stock of the current PS5 model has worn out, the Slim version will be the only available model afterward.
