TECNO POVA 6 Pro 5G cameras |
But even if labeled as a "gaming-focused" smartphone, TECNO equipped the handset with upgraded camera specs.
In particular, the TECNO POVA 6 Pro 5G now packs a 108MP f/1.89 main camera with PDAF focus and a 32MP f/2.2 selfie shooter with adjustable Dual-tone LED flash coming from the 64MP and 16MP of its predecessor.
The other cameras at the back include a 2MP f/2.4 camera and an AI camera.
This one is also using the Dimensity 6080 chip with support for 108MP cameras, advanced noise reduction technologies, and AI camera enhancements.
To see if it is now a passable photography phone even if it isn't being marketed as one, we roamed around Barcelona.
Have a look.

Another daylight shot |
To be honest, I wasn't expecting the POVA 6 Pro 5G to perform this well in daylight. But, it did.
My shots are crisp and rich in colors. Period.

1x, 10x zoom Sagrada Familia, Barcelona |
TECNO said that thanks to its 108MP sensor, it can do up to 10x zoom shots. AND yes, it can.
While it won't be as great as other cameras with periscope cameras, the result we got was impressive for its class. This is still usable for a phone without actual zoom cameras.
 |
1x, 3x indoor |
TECNO just needs to improve a little on its camera consistency as there are times when shots tend to be a little soft even with adequate lighting.
 |
Daylight outdoor |
Sometimes even on outdoor shots, the exposure will be a little darker. Thankfully, it is detailed and you can always edit that in the post.

Indoors, even in dimmer lighting conditions, the quality will dip a little. But, they are still better than many gaming-focused affordable phones. The colors are still rich and the dynamic range is still there. It can even take respectable close-up images with natural background blurs.
When you use the Portrait mode in the dark, the output is usable. However, grain and artifacts will be more visible.
Alora's shot seems fine from afar with respectable edge detection and background blur. However, the grain is visible. In Gian's shot, the detail is a little better as there are more light sources in that area. Just note that working with lights in low light using this device is a hit or miss.

Night mode |
In the dark, my tip is to use the Night mode in non-moving subjects in areas without too many light sources as there might be some light bleeding even if its lenses are clean.

Decent-looking selfie |

Nice HDR |
For selfies, it is generally okay. Shots are not beautified. The details are crisp enough. The colors are close to accurate with a minor green tint. Some HDR are going on that are visible in the clouds as well.
Quick thoughts
Most camera-focused smartphones in its class are still going to perform better than the cameras of the TECNO POVA 6 Pro 5G. But for a gaming-centric device, the effort to make it a respectable shooter is there.
In fact, if you don't have other cameras and as long as you know how to maximize its imaging hardware, the images it can take are generally decent and will only struggle in situations with harsh or minimal lighting.
Generally, I find its photography performance to be decent. That's a compliment for a gaming-focused entry-mid-range phone.
