The International Data Corporation (IDC) published its latest insights on the Philippine tablet scene of 2023.

PH tablet market is down

According to its Worldwide Quarterly Personal Computing Device Tracker, the Philippines' tablet market declined by 39.8 percent to just over 750,000 units in 2023.

It says that local tablet shipments dropped to pre-pandemic levels and is the lowest annual shipment recorded since 2012.

Tablet shipments dropped to pre-pandemic levels after averaging over a million units per year between 2020 to 2023. This was the lowest annual shipment recorded since 2012, said Angela Medez, Senior Market Analyst at IDC Philippines.

But, multiple vendor launches drove 4Q23 to grow sequentially by 35.1 percent. Samsung’s new Galaxy Tab A9 & S9 FE series alone accounted for almost 40 percent of the quarter's 218,000 shipments.

This 2024, IDC says that commercial tablet shipments may even contract with shifting priorities among government agencies over the procurement of tablets for educational purposes.
