DxOMark reveals its verdict for the iPhone 16 Pro Max's cameras which it received a high rating for video and photos.

Apple still leads in video but places 4th in photo

The main highlight is the impressive video performance of Apple's 2024 flagship where it got 1st place in this category with 159 points.

DxOMark noted that the iPhone 16 Pro Max's video was tested at 4K resolution at a 60 fps variable frame rate alongside the Dolby Vision format. The benchmark firm says the video exposure and accurate colors were top-notch, with consistent performance spanning several recording conditions.

The review simply stated that the iPhone's texture-to-noise ratio is the best observed in any tested device to date. DxOMark added the AF system was dependable even in low light conditions and the stabilization was among the finest in the market.

DxOMark also mentioned the iPhone 16 Pro Max brings several proRes modes such as Log and HDR. Users can also record in 4K 120fps which looks good for slow-motion videos (low light).

DxOMark also tested the iPhone's fast frame rate under indoor lighting or in low light, where they can notice more noise and flickering than at 60fps.

Moving to the photo section, the iPhone 16 Pro Max performed great in various scenarios according to DxOMark despite not changing mostly its camera sensors. 

It got a total score of 157 points placing 4th for both the overall global and ultra-premium segments.

The benchmark firm states that the iPhone 16 Pro Max is perfect for capturing images on HDR displays with accurate colors. It added that Apple has improved the advanced HDR image format, increasing the dynamic range while keeping HDR-related artifacts such as ghosting to a minimum.

The iPhone 16 Pro Max also produces precise white balance and natural colors with great details and textures in bright scenarios. Furthermore, DxOMark says this also offers a wide dynamic range on all of its zoom ranges while the AF is also fast and accurate.
