Fairness for all investors?

Following the ban imposed on the sale of the iPhone 16 series, Indonesia has also blocked sales of smartphones made by Alphabet's Google, reports said. Both moves were due to the country’s policy that requires the use of locally manufactured components.

Indonesia has banned the sale of Pixel because Google has not met the rules that require certain smartphones sold domestically to contain at least 40 percent of parts manufactured locally.

We are pushing these rules so that there's fairness for all investors in Indonesia," said Febri Hendri Antoni Arief, industry ministry spokesperson. "Google's products have not adhered to the scheme we set, so they can't be sold here.

Pixel phones are not officially distributed in Indonesia, but Febri said consumers can buy the smartphones overseas.

Prior to this, Indonesian Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said that Apple also failed to comply with local import requirements, leading to the ban on the sale of the latest iPhone 16 series.

As noted by a Reuters report, companies usually tap local suppliers to comply with Indonesia's policy.

An IDC analysis showed that Indonesia’s major smartphone manufacturers in the first quarter of 2024 were China's OPPO and South Korea's Samsung.

What do you think guys?
