Ookla recently published its latest report regarding the speed test performance of Apple's new iPhone 16 Series.
The internet speed test authority gathered data from 11 countries around the world from September 20 to October 20, 2024, for the entire iPhone 16 lineup and compared it to its previous generation and its competitor Galaxy S24 family.
Based on their findings, the new iPhone 16 lineup shows a statistically significant lead for median 5G download speed in five out of 11 countries. The iPhone 14 is the slowest in 7 out of 11 countries while the Galaxy S24 family led on median 5G upload speeds in 8 out of 11 countries.
In APAC, the iPhone 16 lineup showed the highest Median Download Speed (Mbps) with 261.57 followed by the Galaxy S4 family with 251.17. But for Median Upload, the Galaxy S24 recorded a faster 19.69 compared to the iPhone 16's 17.35.
In the Philippines, the Galaxy S24 family is leading the market with a Median 5G Download Speed of 158.47 and the lowest Median 5G Multiserver Latency at just 32 ms.
The iPhone 16 phones showed improvements over previous generation iPhones, but Samsung's current greatest has a roughly 33 Mbps advantage in 5G download speeds.
The iPhone 16 lineup showed relatively minor improvement over its predecessors, posting a median 5G download speed of 125.68 Mbps, a tick above the iPhone 15 and 14 families (both registered speeds of about 120 Mbps).
To recap, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are equipped with the Apple A18 SoC while the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are powered by the Apple A18 Pro. Both use the Snapdragon X75 5G modem.
