A similar chip with a slight speed increase

MediaTek appears to be employing a familiar approach for its budget and mid-range processors: rebranding previous-generation chips with updated names.

The company is taking a similar path with its latest 4G-focused mobile processor, the new Helio G200.

On paper, it comes with a minor difference from the Helio G100. The core architecture remains largely unchanged, including the CPU, GPU class, and display and camera capabilities.

The Helio G200 retains an octa-core configuration with two Cortex-A76 cores and six Cortex-A55 efficiency cores, maintaining the same clock speeds of up to 2.2GHz and 2.0GHz, respectively.

The GPU is still a Mali-G57-class unit, though MediaTek claims a slight speed increase to 1.1GHz this time. Storage and memory support remain identical, with LPDDR4X RAM at up to 4,266 Mbps and UFS 2.2 storage.

Given the similarities between the two chips, MediaTek is not directly comparing the G200 to the G100. Instead, it highlights performance improvements against unspecified "competitor alternative platforms."

According to MediaTek, the G200 delivers over 35 percent higher performance in AnTuTu benchmarks, a 40 percent improvement in single-core and 20 percent in multi-core Geekbench scores, 75 percent faster GPU performance, and 30 percent better power efficiency in gaming.

Camera and display specifications remain unchanged. The G200 supports up to 200MP sensors, multi-frame noise reduction, and 12-bit dual conversion gain (DCG) for video HDR. The display supports 120Hz FHD+ resolution, with MediaTek’s Intelligent Display Sync dynamically adjusting refresh rates for improved power efficiency.

For connectivity, the G200 includes an integrated Cat-13 4G LTE modem with dual 4G VoLTE, 4x4 MIMO, 256QAM, and support for multiple global bands. It also introduces a new 4G DC SAR feature, which enhances performance for social and messaging apps in low-signal areas.
