Expanding contactless payment services
Following a pilot test run, commuters can now officially pay for their MRT-3 fare via GCash or QR Ph.
This was announced by the Department of Transportation, noting that the cashless payment option is available in all MRT-3 train stations.
To use the cashless payment option, commuters simply have to scan the QR code on the counter.
This development follows the Philippine launch of the
GCash Watch Pay in March. By simply generating a QR code via their HUAWEI smartwatch, users can pay for their transactions without having to have cash in their wallets or bring out their phone to scan a QR code.
GCash Watch Pay is supported by the following smartwatches:
- HUAWEI Watch Ultimate
- HUAWEI Watch GT Series
- HUAWEI Watch D2
- HUAWEI Watch GT 4
- HUAWEI Watch Fit
- HUAWEI Band 10
Hopefully, MRT-3's contactless payment service will soon expand to include more options.
What do you think, guys?
