Replacing your existing Gmail address
Are you still stuck with your embarrassing high school email? Well, good thing now that Google has unveiled a new feature allowing users to
replace their existing address.
The first step is to check whether you can replace your Gmail address. To do so, you can follow these steps.
For Android users:
- Open your device's Settings app
- Tap Google, then your name
- At the top, tap Personal info
- Tap Email
- Tap Google Account email. If you can't open this setting, it might not be possible to change your email or username
If you are using a personal computer:
- On your computer, go to your Google Account
- On the left navigation panel, click Personal info
- Click Email
- Select the Google Account email. If you can't open this setting, it might not be possible to change your email or username
When using an iPhone or iPad:
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Gmail app
- At the top right, tap your profile picture or initial and then Manage your Google Account. If you don't use Gmail, go to myaccount.google.com
- At the top, tap Personal info
- Tap Email
- Select the Google Account email. If you can't open this setting, it might not be possible to change your email or username
NOTE: If your account's email address ends in @gmail.com, you usually can't change it.
If you're using a Google Account through your work, school, or other group, ask your administrator for help.
To change your address via any of the said devices:
- Next to your email address, select Edit
- Enter the new email address for your account. Choose one that isn't already used by another Google Account
- Follow the steps on the screen
Your existing data, including photos, messages, and emails, would remain unchanged.
Note that those who change their address won't be able to create another new Gmail address for the next 12 months and cannot delete the newly chosen address.
