Smart Communications, Inc. has activated a new site in San Vicente, Palawan.

This move means that the company is reinforcing its commitment to extend reliable internet access to underserved communities.

This initiative supports the government's drive to close the digital divide, helping more Filipinos in remote areas access essential online services. It also strengthens the Bayanihan SIM program, which provides free SIM cards with mobile data to residents in disadvantaged communities.

Smart reported that together with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), they have distributed 1,500 SIM cards to beneficiaries, including students at Old Caruray Elementary School. This is fully subsidized by the government.

In addition, PLDT turned over a School-in-a-Bag package to Old Caruray Elementary School.

This portable digital classroom includes a laptop for teachers, 10 tablets pre-loaded with DepEd learning materials, a Smart Bro LTE Pocket WiFi device, and expandable storage.

The launch was attended by Palawan officials, DICT and NTC representatives, and PLDT executives, underscoring the collaborative effort behind the project.

To recap, the Bayanihan SIM program is powered by Smart's mobile network and PLDT's fiber infrastructure.

This highlights the group's ongoing investment in nationwide connectivity and improved customer experience.
