Filipino kids under 15 who vlog may now need a work permit

Kids under 15 who appear in vlogs, livestreams, ads, or other online content in the Philippines may now need a work permit from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

Labor Advisory 12, Series of 2026, reminds parents and employers that child labor safeguards extend to digital media, not just traditional platforms.

Under RA 9231, children below 15 are generally barred from employment, except when working under a parent’s sole responsibility or when their role in entertainment or information is deemed essential.

The rules cover TV, radio, cinema, theater, print, streaming services, social media, vlogs, ads, podcasts, and other digital platforms.

Basically, employers must secure a DOLE permit before engaging children in such activities, while parents or guardians remain accountable under the law.

According to DOLE, the measure reinforces child protection standards, covering both online platforms and traditional entertainment.
