Unboxing / Accessories

Unboxed!

Coming from last year's model, the new arrives with identical accessories inside the box. Fortunately, the wall charger improved as it now has 2A of fast charging instead of the regular and slower 1A of power output.

Then it still has the same regular USB to micro USB long cables, earbuds w/ microphone, translucent polymer case, and SIM ejector tool. We also noticed that the device comes with a pre-installed screen protector on its screen. That is a great thing.

Build Quality / Design

Brushed aluminum premium goodness!
Brushed aluminum premium goodness!

The VR One surprised us with its build and design. It is made of matte aluminium and glass with boxy corners that have been smoothened out. The texture on the aluminium is beautiful. One of the more better looking on the market. On the front is the 2.5D glass with a distinct pattern under it that shines when a light source hits the pattern at a certain angle which gives it a very unique feel. It has Gorilla Glass 3 protection against scratches and accidents as well.

It's like those holographic stickers or holographic pokemon cards from the 90s. When combined with the unique matte finish at the back, the VR ONE has the most unexplainable beauty we've seen so far.
This machine is uniquely beautiful!
At the bottom are the dual speaker grills and the micro USB port while on top are the 3.5mm headphone jack and one of the microphones. On the right side are the volume rocker and the power button while the sim card tray is on the left.

At the back plate are the branding, the antenna lines, the camera, the regulatory prints and the LED light. At front you will find the display, the earpiece, the home button, the secondary camera, and the sensors.

The bezels on the side of the display is really think so it makes it easier to hold the phone with one hand. The phone is also very light so we really like the Arsenal VR One right out of the box.

Initial findings

1. With the 5.2 inch display has brilliant 1080p sharpness with decent saturated colors and good viewing angles. 60 fps videos are absolutely smooth without any signs of artifacting.
2. The 35370 Antutu score is a little underwhelming for a VR centric machine. This could be due to its slightly dated MediaTek MT6753 octa core processor w/ Mali T720 graphics.
3. Build and design is stunning and with the patterned holographic accents make it stand out.
4. The Main camera and the secondary camera performed well in brightly lit situations while the low light shots are a hit or miss. We may have to do further testing with it.
5. It has USB OTG, a gyroscope and orientation sensor for AR and VR.

As of the moment

So far we find the price a little higher than we'd like but the design and the quality of VR it provides may change our minds. We have to get into further testing of this interesting new smartphone entry into the Philippine market.
