On paper, the best among the series is the ZenFone 4 Selfie Pro. It's a midranger packed w/ a promising 12MP + 5MP dual camera setup for selfies and groufies!

In particular, it has Sony IMX362 12MP f/1.8 bright Dual Pixel PDAF sensor paired w/ a 5MP f/2.2 120-degree wide angle lens for groufies. It also highlights ASUS's proprietary DuoPixel technology that "losslessly" interpolates the 12MP lens to 24MP.

It also has a soflight LED flash for selfies in the dark and 4K UHD video recording.

Sounds great? Is it the rightful upgrade the great ZenFone Selfie last 2015?

The dual selfie camera setup of the ASUS ZenFone 4 Selfie Pro is decent, but it isn't as mind-blowing as it is on paper. Color reproduction is warm and punchy, but it has noticeable grains even in daylight.

The 5MP f/2.2 120-degree wide angle secondary selfie camera can really take wide GoPro-like distorted shots for groufies. But, the quality is hit or miss even in daylight. It often has poor dynamic range and a lot of grains.

Fortunately, it has nice and bright flash and HDR mode that enables users to shoot acceptable selfies in the dark.

However, this handset is clearly not as impressive versus most selfie-centric phones at this price point.

Hopefully, ASUS can update its software to unleash the true potential of this phone.
