The Vivo NEX already made headlines in 2018 because of its great screen-to-body ratio and pop-up camera. Now, it is the subject of tests to accommodate future 5G signals.

According to reports, the upcoming Vivo NEX 5G smartphone is equipped with the latest SoC from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 855. The Snapdragon 855 chip comes with the X50 LTE modem to enable 5G connectivity.

Vivo also confirmed that they have completed software and hardware development geared towards manufacturing of commercial 5G smartphones with plans of launching pre-commercial terminals in 2019.

There are speculations that it could have up to 10GB of RAM.

Last September, Vivo also stated that they successfully tested 5G on its NEX smartphone. But, the SoC they used was not revealed during that time.

The 5G Race

There are also reports of other big names trying to utilize 5G connectivity on their future releases such as Huawei, OPPO and Xiaomi. Rumors have it that these three will also showcase their 5G prototypes at the upcoming MWC in 2019.
