OPPO and Ericsson signed 5G patent license agreement

OPPO and Ericsson announced that they signed a multi-year global patent license agreement. This agreement covers patent licensing and collaboration.

This agreement will be a major part of collaborative projects between the two companies. According to OPPO, the biggest take from this is that it will lay a foundation between the two companies upon entering the 5G era. They are looking forward to working with Ericsson to drive development of more innovative products and services. This is a major addition for OPPO as they add Ericsson to their list of key telecommunication partners such as Qualcomm, Dolby, and Nokia.

Erisson is one of the leaders in the Information and Communication Technology field in the world. For them, the deal with OPPO is very important as it confirms the value of their patent portfolio and the stability of their licensing program. Ericsson has signed more than 100 patent license agreements to date already.

OPPO has been implementing a patent-first strategy, that proves to be paying off for OPPO as they have drastically increased their patent portfolio since 2014. As of January 2019, the company has already filed more than 33,000 patent applications across the globe and owns more than 8,000 granted patents.
