The competition in the sub PHP 10K price point has been heating up the past few years and in January, Nokia and HMD Global released the Nokia 3.1 Plus in the Philippines.

It features a metal and glass built phone with a MediaTek Helio P22 with up to 3GB RAM, up to 32GB internal storage and a large 3,500mAh battery with a dual front facing camera!

It was recently updated to Android 9.0 Pie which along with its specs make it an incredible value on paper.

How does it perform in the real world though? Let's find out.

The Nokia 3.1 Plus comes in an aluminium and glass build that makes it both sturdy and premium for its price point. The matte textured aluminium makes it prettier to look at while adding a grippy texture that reduces hand slippage.

Sturdy Nokia-grade build!

The front is an curved 2.5D glass on top of the display with thin side bezels and thicker top and bottom bezels.

The top bezel has the earpiece, notification LED, front facing camera and the Nokia branding.

At the top is the 3.5mm headphone jack and a microphone while at the bottom are the speaker grills and microUSB port. Only one speaker grill has audio output.

On the right side is the power button and the volume rocker while on the left side are the two sim card trays. One of which has a microSD card slot too.

Overall, the phone feels premium to hold but it can be slip from your grasp without a case.

Initial findings

Big and immersive screen
Big and immersive screen

1. The Nokia 3.1 Plus on paper looks impressive because of its large IPS display. The display is a large 6-inch 2.5D curved IPS screen with a resolution of 1440 x 720 at 268 ppi! The colors are vibrant, the contrast is decent along with the resolution.

Our gripe with the monitor is that we wished it was at 1080p and that it was brighter. At maximum brightness, we were struggling reading items in direct sunlight out of the box.
Okay AnTuTu score

2. It is powered by the aforementioned MediaTek Helio P22, PowerVR GE8320 GPU, 3GB RAM and 32GB Internal storage that resulted in an AnTuTu score of 78,373.

If the the internal 32GB storage is lacking, it is expandable of up to 400GB via microSD card.
The battery is a large 3,500mAh battery and is charged via micro USB with a 5V-2A charger.

It even has a solid metal body with a 2.5D curved glass front with acceptable bezel sizes.
