Build Quality/Design

Glass-like versus matte finish back design
Glass-like versus matte finish back design

Realme C1 and Huawei Y6 2018 have big differences in terms of the materials used to build the rear design of the two smartphones.

The Realme C1's design reminds us of the OPPO A3s. It also has a big  6.2-inch 2.5D curved In-Cell IPS screen with a resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels and tall 19:9 screen aspect ratio.

The C1 at first glance looks premium and looks more expensive than it actually is. But upon closer inspection, the textured frame is made of a metal like material while the back has a glass like material. Construction is more than decent considering its low price tag.

Meanwhile, Huawei Y6 2018 reminds us of the bigger and higher-end Nova 2 lite. It still has the matte textured polycarbonate backplate and metallic chrome painted plastic sides. Its matte design is prone to scratches, Huawei should've added protective case on the package.

On the top, the 5.7-inch HD+ 18:9 2.5D curved screen is protected by the pre-installed screen protector. It has no Gorilla or Dragontrail glass.

For the design, both have small chin and side bezels which are now continuously being common for entry-level smartphones.

Realme C1 has notched display but there is no option to hide the notch. on the other hand, Huawei Y6 2018 has no notch which might be "perfect" for those who aren't fond of the notch yet.

Both look nice for the price. Winner on the design might depend on your preference if you want a glass-like design or a matte textured smartphone. But for us, Realme C1 wins since it has the more modern and premium look for the price.

Display Quality

Notched and unnotched displays
Notched and unnotched displays

As mentioned earlier, only the Realme C1 has notch. The Huawei Y6 2018 still sports an unnotched screen.

Realme C1 sports a 6.2-inch 2.5D curved display. It has Gorilla Glass protection, In-Cell IPS screen with HD+ 1440 x 720 resolution at 260 ppi. It has a slim notch enough to house a single selfie camera, sensors and earpiece.

Meanwhile, Huawei Y6 2018 features a 5.7-inch HD+ 18:9 screen. With its wide screen, it is nice to binge-watch our favorite Netflix show and play games in it. It also offers a mini screen view if you opt to have a smaller screen.

Both are bang-for-buck when it comes to display's color accuracy, sharpness, and nice viewing angles. Realme's notched screen do not have to option to hide the notch.

Both have 10 points of multitouch. The winner for this section would be depending on the preference of a user. It can be the Huawei Y6 2018 for those who still prefer unnotched screens and can be the Realme C1 for those who want a more modern design.

Audio Quality

Both the Realme C1 and Huawei Y6 2018 have single loudspeakers placed at the bottom of each smartphone.

The sound quality of both smartphones are nice, But since Huawei has poised the Y6 2018 as a multimedia-centric smartphone, the louder sound is evident. Both smartphones produce distorted sound when cranked up to the highest.

Realme C1 is equipped with a single microphone while the Huawei Y6 2018 have two. Microphone quality of the two smartphones are decent and okay for the price. Both also create a hissing sound when recording a video.

Calls are crisp most of the time too! It's a tie for us.

Team dual or team single camera?

One of the key highlights of the Realme C1 could be its dual camera setup for its price. It features a dual rear camera setup of 13MP f/2.2 + 2MP f/2.4 with AF and LED flash.

For the selfie camera, it sports a 5MP front camera, Realme C1 can shoot highly detailed selfies with good exposure and nice colors. The AI Beauty 2.0 can over-beautify you but you can turn it off and adjust the level depending on your preferability.

Huawei Y6 2018's shot on this scene has a better contrast than the C1's. It has also sharp details but a bit lacking in exposure.

For us, the Realme C1 and Huawei Y6 2018 tied in this scene despite their minor differences.

Scene 3 - Close-up

As you can see, the Realme C1 was able to blur the background of this mini artificial flowers on a vase. The bokeh effect looks decently clean in the eyes with nice exposure and details.

Since the Huawei Y6 2018 has only single rear camera, we didn't expect it to have a clean bokeh effect on this scene. However, it was able to blur the background decently.

Scene 4 - Portrait

The Realme C1 was able to put a nice bokeh effect on me. However, it is not-so-clean as you can see some parts of my hair were also blurred, but it is decent.

We tried Huawei Y6 2018's tap-to-focus "portrait" effect again by placing a human subject against a background. It wasn't able to blur the background behind me but instead focused on putting a nice contrast on the overall photo quality.

Scene 5 - Low light

Realme C1 was able to take a nice and decent shot on this scene. However, it looks a bit pale and a bit lacking of contrast, but has nice exposure.

For this scene, the Huawei Y6 2018 took a decent shot, but it lacks the ample amount of exposure compared with the C1's shot.

As a quick recap, both the Realme C1 and Huawei Y6 2018 feature a single 5MP selfie camera. But who is better and who is not? Let's find out!

Meanwhile, the Huawei Y6 2018 has the ability to shoot 720p at 30 fps videos quality. It shoots videos with good details with acceptable stabilization.

Inside, the Realme C1 is equipped with 1.8GHz 64-bit Snapdragon 450 octa-core processor along with Adreno 506 GPU, 2GB RAM, and 16GB expandable memory via dedicated microSD card slot up to 256GB.

Realme C1's Snapdragon 450 chipset is WAY more powerful than the Snapdragon 425 chip of Huawei Y6 2018

Although it's an under PHP 6K smartphone, because of its nice processor, C1 is snappy and can even play some games like PUBG mobile on low settings with high frame rates properly.

Our only gripe is that it has only 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage. BUT, it is still one of the smoothest as long as you don't install huge apps and open a lot of apps all at the same time.

Meanwhile, Huawei Y6 2018 is and entry-level smartphone equipped with the slower Qualcomm MSM8917 Snapdragon 425 quad-core processor.

The opening and closing off apps are snappy but sometimes it’s a bit lagging. It can be deemed to the phone’s 2GB RAM. It is equipped with a 16GB ROM and is expandable up to 256GB via dedicated microSD card slot.

We tested the heavy mobile game PUBG with the Huawei. Upon opening the game, as expected, it has adjusted the setting to the lowest to accommodate the capability of the phone. But that’s fine, since the Huawei Y6 2018 still gave us a nice gaming experience even in low settings.

You can notice a big difference on the AnTuTu score of the two smartphones. Realme C1 has scored a total of 72,942 over Huawei Y6 2018's 46,341.

Realme C1 is clearly the speedier phone for gaming.

The UI

The Realme C1 runs on the Android 8.1 Oreo with ColorOS 5.1. It doesn't have too much bloatware apps. Most of the pre-installed apps are intended for optimization.

Meanwhile the Huawei Y6 2018 also runs on the Android 8.0 Oreo with EMUI 8.0. Just like the Realme C1, it has some bloatwares but can be deleted.

Of the two, we like the Realme C1's UI more.  It has easier and updated navigation buttons than the Y6 2018's.

Other features

Both smartphones have speedy face unlock, fingerprint scanners, LTE, Bluetooth and WiFi connection. But the Realme C1 has a faster face unlock over the Huawei Y6 2018.

The rest of the telephony experience of the Realme C1 and Huawei Y6 2018 are great as well.
