Quick thoughts
Huawei Y9 Prime 2019's back cameras come with snappy shooting speed, reliable focus, possible macro shots in daylight, and speedy saving time.
Daylight images with the AI turned on is hit or miss. We had shots with accurate colors, but we also got images with oversaturated colors and oversharpened edges. But when it works, it works well!
Exposure and dynamic range are also respectable though there are times where images might look a bit dull.
The ultra-wide lens is good in daylight with minimal distortion. It'll struggle a little with artificial light though. Portrait mode also works with decent depth estimation and background to subject separation. Edges could have been a bit cleaner though.
Low light performance is decent, thanks to its f/1.8 primary shooter. However, it might still look noisy and soft for most. Gladly, it has one of the nicest AI-assisted night modes around.
However, the night mode is not available for the ultra-wide lens. It resulted in soft and blurry ultra-wide images in the dark.
For selfies, its 16MP f/2.2 pop-up cam is one of the nicest for the price with good color reproduction, decent details, and nice HDR effect. Face beauty could be aggressive at times, so turn it off if it is too much for you. It'll also struggle a little in low light, but you can always use its screen flash.
Overall, Huawei Y9 Prime 2019's cameras didn't blow us away. But, it doesn't mean that it is not a good phone for photography. In fact, it can take respectable images in its class despite being a design-focused smartphone first.
To those who are interested, Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 is now available for pre-order. Those who will pre-order until July 12, 2019 will get a FREE Premium Bluetooth Speaker worth PHP 1,790.
