Smart makes VoLTE available in Metro Manila

In 2017, Smart in partnership with Ericsson made the very first successful VoLTE call in the Philippines. Fast-forward August of 2019, the local telco giant announced that the said service is now available in Metro Manila.

VoLTE now available in Metro Manila

Voice over Long Term Evolution (VoLTE) is designed to allow users to transmit calls using 4G LTE connectivity and make users enjoy a richer call experience.

Basically, it has superior call quality versus the calls made over 3G and 2G. It is also said that VoLTE-to-VoLTE calls are crystal-clear with almost no background noise and it enables faster call setup.

VoLTE users can also stay online even when making or receiving calls.

Using the compatible handsets, users can make VoLTE calls using their phone's native dialer, and will not require a separate, over-the-top (OTT) application.

Compared to OTT apps, VoLTE delivers better voice quality, and also guarantees that the receiver of the call is reached, unlike OTTs that require both caller and receiver to be online and on the same app.

To enjoy VoLTE, customers need VoLTE-ready devices like the Samsung Galaxy S8 and higher or Huawei Mate 20/P20 and higher. 

Use compatible devices to experience VoLTE in Metro Manila

VoLTE is also expected to be available in more devices soon. If you are on a tight budget, the most affordable phone with VoLTE is the EVO 1 by Starmobile at PHP 1,888.

According to Smart, the service is initially available to select Smart subscribers. Soon, the company will make it available to Smart Signature plan holders as well.

We can also expect Smart to roll this service in most parts of the country after Metro Manila.
