HiSilicon chips to other brands? Why not?

Huawei's HiSilicon will now supply chips to other brands

It means that Huawei is no longer the sole customer of HiSilicon for its chips as it launched 4G communication chips to the open market.

To recall, it is Huawei's strategy to keep HiSilicon as an internal unit and it has worked well for them as it gave its products the AI advantage, optimizations, and more. But now, it seems that it now wants to tap other markets and further expand.

Apart from selling some of its chips to other companies, HiSilicon also changed the name of some of its product lines. The camera product line is now called Smart Vision and the set-up box and TV product lines is now known as Smart Media.

Smart Vision will also expand beyond professional security monitoring to a wider range of perception computing products for consumers and automotive.

On the other hand, Shenzhen HiSilicon will be the one responsible for supplying chips to the parent company.

It is unclear yet if the Kirin chips will be sold to competitors.
