Don't let the smaller resolution fool you

Reportedly, the Huawei P40 Pro will be equipped with a custom made 52MP sensor from Sony instead of 64MP.

But don't let the smaller resolution fool you, it has a 1/1.33-inch big sensor size and it will feature a new "Quad Quad Bayer" solution.

From its name, it should come with even greater performance than what we see with other big resolution cameras with 4-in-1 pixel binning.

Basically, it can reach up to 16-in-1 pixel binning instead of just 4-in-1. That means that its 52MP sensor will drop to 3.25MP. But, expect it to punch a lot of details even in very dark lighting conditions.

For daylight shots, it is expected to only use the 4-in-1 conversion or 13MP images.

Huawei used the RYYB instead of the usual RGGB that replaces yellow with green for better light sensitivity in the past so we won't be surprised if Huawei will do the same here.

The P40 Pro is also expected to feature up to 10x optical zoom. The company is said to use a dual prism design to make this possible.

Now let's see how Huawei and Leica will play around with this alleged custom Sony sensor.

The P40 series is expected to go official in March. Stay tuned!
