Sony announced two new premium Android smartphones namely the Xperia 1 III and Xperia 5 III. Both feature a 120Hz OLED screen and SD888 chipset.

Sony Xperia 1 III

The Sont Xperia 1 III features a 6.5-inch OLED screen with 3840 x 1644 4K resolution, HDR support, 120Hz refresh rate, 240Hz touch sample rate, 100 percent DCI-P3 color gamut, 21:9 aspect ratio, and Gorilla Glass Victus protection. It also has IP68 water and dust resistance, front-firing stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, Hi-Res audio, DualShock 4 compatibility, and a dedicated camera shutter button. There's a side-mounted fingerprint scanner as well.

Inside, it has the 2.84GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 octa-core processor, Adreno 660 GPU, 12GB RAM, 256GB expandable storage, and a 4,500mAh battery with 30W fast wired charging and wireless charging support. It also has 5G connectivity, dual-band WiFi, NFC, GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, USB-C, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

For cameras, it has a quad-camera setup with ZEISS optics featuring a 12MP f/1.7 24mm, 1/1.7-inch main sensor with OIS, Dual Pixel PDAF + 12MP f/2.2 ultra-wide-angle 16mm sensor with Dual Pixel PDAF + 12MP f/2.3 to f/2.8 periscope sensor at 70mm to 105mm with OIS and Dual Pixel PDAF + 3D iToF sensor and LED flash. It also has an 8MP selfie camera.

The Sony Xperia 5 III features most of the same specs compared to the Xperia 1 III but with a few downgrades. The Xperia 5 III has a smaller 6.1-inch FHD+ OLED screen but with the same features such as the 120Hz refresh rate and HDR support. It also has IP68 water and dust resistance, front-firing stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, Hi-Res audio, DualShock 4 compatibility, and a dedicated camera shutter button. The fingerprint sensor is side-mounted as well.

For performance, it also has the same specs except for the 8GB RAM and 128GB expandable storage. For the cameras, it is the same exact specs except for the 3D iToF sensor which is absent for the Sony Xperia 5 III.

The Sony Xperia 1 III is available in Frosted Black, and Frosted Purple while the Xperia 5 III comes in Black, Pink, and Green. Both devices are expected to be available in early summer 2021. However, no exact pricing and date were revealed yet.
