Amazon suffers from global outage, services now restored

A few hours ago, the popular shopping site Amazon suffered a massive, global outage. Thousands of users lost access to its services.

The outage was monitored by the popular website Downdetector. According to data collected, Amazon services were disrupted for around two hours globally. At its worst, Downdetector received more than 38,000 reports from users that experienced unsatisfactory shopping experiences from Amazon. The issue started on Sunday evening for US users while the rest of the world experienced it early morning today, Monday.

An Amazon spokesperson released a statement saying that the company already resolved the issue and that "everything is now running smoothly". However, the spokesperson declined to provide information about the main reason for the outage.

In 2021, this is the second major service disruption from Amazon. Late last June, users experienced a brief, but massive, outage on different Amazon platforms including Alexa and  Prime Video before services were restored.
