Samsung Senior VP and Head of Automotive sensors presented the company's pixel history and roadmap which revealed a 576MP sensor for 2025!
In April 2020, Samsung revealed that the company is developing a 600MP sensor. Fast forward to December 2020, Ice Universe obtained 'legit-looking' proprietary camera technology from the Samsung Investors forum that a 600MP camera could arrive for smartphones. This massive 1/0.57-inch sized sensor managed to produce a huge 22mm bulge.
At the recent SEMI Europe Summit, Haechang Lee, Senior VP and Head of Automotive sensors at Samsung electronics presented the company's small pixel history and road map. The image revealed the company's humble beginning with a 0.3MP sensor until the recent 108MP sensors. What surprised the attendees is the 576MP sensor that is planned for 2025 release.
This new sensor is being developed for automobiles that could also be used for drones and medical equipment. It can also be used for smartphones but it currently is not a priority. The Korean giant is planning to expand camera sensor usage beyond smartphones to include autonomous vehicles, drones and the Internet of Things (IoT).
