Apple launches iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max w/ Bionic A16 chip, Dynamic Island, and 48MP main cam!

Apple on schedule today launched its most powerful smartphone duo yet, the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max.

The new kings?

As expected, the new iPhone Pro phones arrived with plenty of improvements coming from their predecessors. It is available in Space Black, Silver, Gold, and Deep Purple colorways.

A new chip!

First is the design, both phones now have a notch-less design. Instead, it is now using an oblong-shaped top-center punch-hole which contains the new New TrueDepth camera that is now smaller than ever. Apple is calling this Dynamic Island.

This is not an ordinary punch-hole, unlike its Android competitors. As the name suggests, it is dynamic which can surface alerts and background activities as well.

The phones still come in 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch 120 Hz ProMotion OLED displays with 1,600 nits peak HDR brightness and 2,000 nits peak outdoor brightness. It now has an Always-On display function as well.

Inside, it is now more powerful than ever. The device is using the new 4nm-based Apple A16 Bionic chip with 16 billion transistors, Neural Engine that can do 17 trillion operations, a new Display Engine that supports as low as 1Hz refresh rate, and an improved ISP (paired with the Neural Engine and CPU) that can do 4 trillion operations per photo.

The devices are available in 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage options. Apple didn't specify its exact battery capacity, but they said that it can last even longer than its predecessor. Of course, it has MagSafe-ready wireless charging as well.

A new main camera

The other huge upgrade is in the camera department. The device is now using a 48MP main camera for the first time. This sensor is 65 percent larger than the 12MP of the 13 Pro allowing it to take 2x better low-light photos. It also has an f/1.78 aperture size, a 7-element lens, 100 percent Focus Pixels, and 2nd-generation sensor-shift OIS, and up to 2x lossless telephoto.

The main cam is paired with a 12MP 3x optical telephoto lens and a new 12MP 1.4 µm size ultra-wide-angle camera than can do macro photography as well. It has support for Apple Pro RAW as well.

Apple also introduced a new Adaptive True Tone flash, Photonic Engine, and computational photography benefits like Night mode, Smart HDR 4, Portrait mode with Portrait Lighting, Night mode Portrait photos, and Photographic Styles.

It also has stereo speakers, 5G connectivity, and runs with iOS 16 out of the box.

Oh, the new iPhones also have crash detection that automatically calls emergency services and Emergency SOS via satellite.

In the US there is no price increase. But in PH, the device is PHP 7,000 more expensive than the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max.
